THE BENEFITS OF WAITING UPON THE LORD

""Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fail; but they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. "Isaiah.40:30-31 (KJV)"

e are living in a society that is under intense pressure of every kind and where almost everybody is racing against time. People have their plans, programs, agendas and expectations which they vigorously pursue. The panic and fear provided by the uncertainty of the next moment for either failure or success gives many a daily night mare.

In Prov.13:12 the bible says that Hope deferred makes the heart sick but when the desire comes, it is a tree of life. Unfortunately many do not know how to stay connected to their dreams and hopes till they are realized. Again in Job 14:7-9 the bible says ˇ°For there is hope for a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that the tender branches there of will not cease; though the root thereof wax old in the earth, and the stock thereof die in the ground; yet through the scent of water it will bud, and bring forth boughs like a plant.ˇ±

Sadly, many think their lives have been so sick and traumatized to the point where it has become impossible to continue to trust in God and wait patiently upon Him for their salvation, deliverance and vindication. The devil tells them that life is a battle field where their fate is in their own hands to either survive or die.

But ladies and gentleman may I call your mind back to our main text in Isa.40:30-31 ˇ°Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall; but they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.ˇ±

Verse 30 is simply saying that even the youngest, strongest and swiftest of men with all their exuberance, vigor, smartness, and energy, left to them alone without God's help that comes by waiting upon the Lord, shall still end up in frustration and failure. Verse 31 "But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength". What does it mean to wait upon the Lord? It means to be patient with the Lord in His dealings with our lives until His will is done in every area of our lives or until He makes us what He wants us to be. "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end." Jer 29:11

As clay in the hands of a porter so are we in His hands: in the process of making us what He wants us to be, we get smashed many times over until the final product emerges.
Waiting upon the Lord involves relying upon Him for strength to bear some burdens or what the bible calls our light and momentary affliction which works for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory 2Cor 4:17; and strength to wait for our deliverance from them in due time.

By doing so we shall renew our strength i.e.: we shall grow stronger and stronger in faith and patience and fortitude to be more than conquerors over all our enemies and adversities. "We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed; always bearing about in our body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our bodyˇ vs16, for which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the in ward man is renewed daily. 2Cor 4:8-16

THEY SHALL MOUNT UP WITH WINGS AS EAGLES.
In other wards, as eagles fly most strongly, and swiftly, and high out of the reach of all dangers, so shall those who wait upon the Lord always be able to overcome all obstacles and challenges ahead of them with the strength that God provides.

HOW CAN WE DO THAT AS EAGLES?
The eagle lives and retains his vigor to a great age and unlike most other birds he molts in his old age, and renews his feathers and his youth. So the bible is simply saying that when we wait upon the Lord we are like the molting eagle that removes the old feathers and puts forth fresh ones which is a sign that our youths have been renewed.

We have to understand that during the process of molting, the eagle may be out of sight but not out of existence. The eagle will surely surface again with greater glory. When you are passing through stuff in the hand of God your maker, you might seem forgotten and unnoticed by men and your environment but when He's through, you will emerge with greater glory.

Psalms 103:5 says "who satisfies your mouth with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagles.ˇ± Waiting upon the Lord is so important even when the Lord blesses us with good things both spiritual and temporal. He does not bless us for us to abandon His presence but so that we may continue to depend and rely upon Him and draw nearer to Him daily for warmth, fellowship and renewal.

"It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the Lord." Lam 3:26

    OTHER BENEFITS:

  • Behold as the eyes of servants look unto the hand of their masters and as the eyes of maid look unto the hands of their mistress; so our eyes wait upon the Lord till HE SHOWS US MERCY. Ps123:2
  • The eyes of all wait upon you and you give them their food in due season. Ps145: 15
  • And behold I send the promise of my father upon you but tarry (wait) ye in Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high. LK 24:49
  • My soul wait thou upon God for my expectation is from Him. Ps 62:5
  • Wait on the Lord; be of good courage and He shall strengthen thy heart. Ps 27:14
  • The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger but they that wait upon the Lord shall lack no good thing. Ps34: 10.

So why not cultivate the attitude of waiting upon the Lord instead of always hasting to sorrows and disappointment; remember it is not by your power or might but by my spirit says the Lord.

May God help us in Jesus name - Amen
