    __________________________________________

    TEXT: Rm.13: 1-3, Heb.13: 17, Eph.5: 22, Eph. 6:5

    Memory Verse:

Obey them that have rule over you, and submit your selves; for they watch over your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief; for that is unprofitable for you. Heb. 13:17 (KJV)

    INTRODUCTION:
One of the most outstanding characteristics of Jesus as He walked this earth was the submission and obedience in which He walked with God, His Father. The Spirit of God is speaking expressly to members of the Church of Jesus Christ in these last days to return and be the mirror that reflects the true image of the life and character of Our LORD JESUS CHRIST who learned obedience through the things He suffered.( Heb.5:8) If we are to manifest Him here on earth, we, too, must learn submission and obedience.

    Study:
  • 1.Where does all authority come from? (Rom 13:1)
  • 2. To whom above all else is a Christian to submit? (Matt 4:19; Jam 4:7)
  • 3. If submission to the Lord involves submission to His Word, what should be our attitude toward the Word of God? (James 1:22)
  • 4. To whom did Jesus submit? (1Cor 11:3, John 14:10)
  • 5. How far did Jesus go in His submission to His Father? (Phil 2:8)
  • 6. Submission to the Lord means submission to the Holy Spirit. How does the Bible describe a right relationship with the Holy Spirit? (Eph 5:18,Eph 4:30, 1These 5:19)
  • 7. God has delegated His authority to certain individuals. To whom is each of the following told to submit?
    a. Husband? (1Cor 11:3)
    b. Wives? (Eph 5:22-23; Col 3:18)
    c. Church members (Heb. 13:17) What does God promise if a husband is harsh or unjust in his use of authority? (1 Peter 3:7)
    d. Children? (Col 3:20; Eph 6:1-3) How can children be taught submission? (Prov. 13:24; 22:15) What warning is given to parents about disciplining their children? (Col 3:21)
    e. Employees? (Col 3:22; Eph 6:5-7)
    f. Citizens? (Rom 13:1-7; 1Pet 2:13-14)
    g. New Christian? (1 Peter 5:5)
    h. Church Members? (Eph 5:21)
    i. Elders? (Eph 5:21)
  • 8. Study carefully Romans 13:2; Eph 5:22 and 6:5. If all authority comes from God, when we submit to His delegated authority, to whom are we submitting?
  • 9. If someone to whom we submit, tells us to do something that is against the commandments of God, what should we do? (Acts 4:19-20; Matt 22:21) 10. How does God measure the degree of our submission? (Luke 6:45-46) 11. In what manner does God desire us to be submissive and obedient? (Rom 6:17) 12. Is it within our natural power to have this kind of obedience? (Jer 17:9; Rom 3:10-19) 13. Where does the ability for true obedience and submission come from? (Rom 8:11; Heb 12:11)
