THE CONSEQUENCES OF PRIDE

INTRODUCTION:
One of the definitions of the word "Pride" according to
Longmans Dictionary of Contemporary English is: "too high an
opinion of one's self because of one's Position,
wealth or abilities etc."From Ezek28:11-17, we discover
that the devil we fight, resist, bind and cast out today
as our arch enemy, was once
1.the model of perfection,
full of wisdom and prefect in beauty 2.He was anointed
and ordained as a guardian cherub
3.He was blameless in
all his ways from the day he was created till the day
iniquity or wickedness was found in him.
What was that iniquity, sin or wickedness? Of course
Pride; Pride on account of his beauty and splendor.
Study:
Let us look at the consequences of Pride from the following scriptures:
- Pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall Prov. 16:18
- Before his down fall, a man's heart is proud Prov.18:12
- The Lord tears down a proud man's house Prov.15:25(a)
- Everyone that is proud in heart is an abomination to the Lord - be sure of this, he will never go unpunished Prov. 16:5
- He has scattered those who are proud in their in most thoughts¨CLK1:51b
- God opposes or resists the proud 1Pet 5:5b
- Rebellion comes from pride; discuss.
CONCLUSION:
1) Lucifer was driven out in disgrace out of the mountain of
God and expelled from among the fiery stones. 2)
God made a spectacle of him before kings. 3)
The fire that came out of him consumed him and finally he was
reduced to ashes on the ground. All these happened to Lucifer
as a consequence to his pride and rebellion against GodĄ¯s authority.
They could still directly or indirectly happen to any Child of God
who holds too high an opinions of him/her because of his/her position,
education, wealth or abilities etc -
let us be aware!
May the Lord help us to be his obedient
children in Jesus name. Amen?
