    Topic:     SEEKING FIRST THE KINGDOM OF GOD &HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS II

    TEXTS: MATTHEW 6:19-21

    Memory Verse: "Do not store up for yourself treasures on the earth, where moth and rust consume, and where thieves break in and steal! But store up for your selves treasures in heaven where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal! For where your treasure is there your heart will be also. Math.6:19-21 (RSV)"

    INTRODUCTION:
    The Hebrew word for ¡°treasure¡± is genez usually meaning ¡°the thing stored¡± translated ¡°treasures¡± in Ezra 6:1 and ¡°treasure-house¡± in Ezra 5:17, 7:20. ¡°Something stored¡± or kept in a treasury or treasure-house no doubt must be of great value, and worth preserving from decay or rust.

    A bank is a treasure-house but unfortunately in this world no bank is perfectly immured from robbery and decay unlike in Heaven where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not brake in and steal, Hence there is the need for us to store up our treasures in a safe place.

    Study:

  • What kind of riches do people like to collect here on earth? Is there any thing wrong with this?
  • How can we lay up treasures in heaven ITim.6:17-19; Acts 9:36-41; Lk2:36-37; Rm1:14-16.
  • Read Vs 22-23 of text and give examples of how a person¡¯s view of earthly treasure can be a stumbling block to his spiritual life. Lk12:13-21; Lk18:18-27; 2Tim4:10.

    CONCLUSION:
    People are always making plans about their earthly treasures. As Christians and children of the kingdom, our chief concern when planning, should be how we can add daily to our heavenly treasures. (1Tim6:17-19) there shows us how to gain treasures in heaven. We are pilgrims and strangers in this world. 1Pet.2:11.Our citizenship is in heaven from where also we look for a Saviour Jesus Christ.Phil.3:20. We are ambassador sent from heaven.2Cor.5:20; one day we will be called back to give accounts of our mission and shall be rewarded by the Lord. All that will matter on that day is how much we deposited in the central bank of heaven during our mission here on earth.
    May God help us in Jesus name Amen!
