Topic:
SEEKING FIRST THE KINGDOM OF GOD &HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS VII
FOCUS
CHURCH BUILDING PROJECTS (II)
TEXTS: Nehemiah6:1-19, Neh 2:19-20, Neh4:1-6
Memory Verse: "For they all made us afraid, saying, their hands shall be weakened from the work, that it be not done. Now therefore O God, strengthen my hands. Neh: 6:9"
INTRODUCTION:
Whenever God stirs up our spirit to build for Him or to carry out His instruction and accomplish a definite purpose, we must not fail to understand that the enemy the deil will do any thing to stop us. The first thing he will do is to send evil arrows of discouragement.
He does this most often through human agents who may not only begin to unleash a flood of destructive criticism, but also in some cases gang up and conspire to check mate us. From today¡¯s main text, we see how Samballat, Tobiah, and Geshem, and the rest of Israel¡¯s enemies reacted when they heard that Nehemiah had rebuilt the wall of Jerusalem and was about to set up the doors of the gates.
Study:
- At first, the enemies of God's work may appear to mean well and friendly in their advice and suggestions to us. Like Samballat and Geshem who invited Nehemiah for a meeting in one of the villages of Ono (VS1), they may invite you to a dinner at a restaurant or any at any of such comfortable places where they will have enough time to try to craftily deceive you to change your mind and believe that what you are doing is impossible or unnecessary. But in 2Cor2:11 the Bible says we are not ignorant of the devils devices; those who are called to build must understand that the thought of the enemy is to do them mischief no matter how he cleverly articulates it. Consider Prov.26:24-25
- Kingdom builders must know how to reply the enemies of God's work. We must understand that what we are doing is a great work which is not worth leaving to go and answer or ague with the enemy. Consider Nehemiah¡¯s answer in 6:3
- Don't be surprised if the enemies keep coming back; they only want to know if your answer or confession will change concerning the work God has committed into your hands. Consider Neh6:4.
- If the enemies could not discourage you, they will accuse you and misinterpret your intensions and give you names for being a Zealous Child of God. Consider Neh6:5-7,Neh2:19-20
- Don't be afraid of them just take the matter to the Lord in Prayer.VS8-9; God will surely strengthen your hands.
- Be careful to discern the voice of Tobiah and Samballat through any hired prophet or Church member. Consider VS10-14
- When the building is completed, the enemies will bow and know that it was God Himself that was at work in you.VS15-19.
CONCLUSION:
: If God is behind the project, He will stir up the spirit of one or
two or more people who will inspire others to work. The most important
thing is to speak one language and have one heart, one mind and one
purpose to do the work. Remember Neh:4:6"
...for the people had a mind to work. See also Gen11:6.
May God help us in Jesus name Amen!
