Theme:THE CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP II
__________________________________________
TEXT:
Heb 10:24-25, Acts 2:42
Memory Verse:
And they continued steadfastly in the apostles doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread and in prayers. ACTS 2:42 (NKJV)
INTRODUCTION:
Christian fellowship could be defined as a regular gathering together of the believers in Christ for the purpose of
worship which includes teaching, preaching the word of God, ministering to the Lord in songs of worship and praises, collecting the contributions, Collections or levy of the saints, Holy Communion or breaking of bread, and Prayers. It also includes lifting up the spirit of the brethren with testimonies of the Lord's doings in the lives of individuals and the church.
Communicating or sharing material needs where and when necessary to those in need Heb 13:16
Another word for fellowship is communion; both of them are varying translations of the Greek words Koinonia and Koinoneo, which designate ACTS of fellowship observed among early Christians and expresses the unique sense of unity and fellowship by which they outwardly expressed these acts.
However, several passages in which these terms (fellowship or communion) are used fall into two groups: those in which they refer to acts of fellowship, and those in which they refer to fellowship as experienced .
In this lesson we are going to be considering "Fellowship" from these two perspectives. We pray The Holy spirit to open our eyes to see and our hearts to understand the mysteries of Fellowship .

ACTS OF FELLOWSHIP
The acts of fellowship mentioned in the New Testament are of four kinds, namely: The Lord's Supper(Holy Communion),Community of Goods and Contributions,Collections,Levy of the Saints as we saw in part1 of this lesson, but today we are going to begin by looking at the meaning of The Lord's Supper or Holy Communion.
WHAT IS HOLY COMMUNION?
- 1.It is the cup of blessing which we bless which is the Communion of the blood of Christ. 1Cor 10:16
- 2.It is the Bread which we break, which is the communion of the body of Christ. 1Cor 10:16
Paul is making a protest against idolatrous feasts on the ground that such feasts are really celebrated in honour of the demons associated with idols and that those who participate in them come into fellowship with demons. See 1Cor 10:20. As a proof of this point, the apostle Paul cites the Lord's supper with which his readers are familiar. He means that by partaking of the cup and the bread, we who do so are linked together in unity;"We who are many, are one bread, one body;for we all partake of one bread" 1Cor 10:17 .Thus the communion of the elements (bread and wine) is a real communion of the brethren one with another and with Christ. We have to understand Communion in this spiritual sense for it to make real meaning to us.
- 3.What do you understand by the statements of John 6:53-56?
Things we must bear in mind:
- .1)This bread or the body of Christ is broken for us all Him, we should be thankful as we break it among ourselves. 1Cor 11:24a.
- 2).It should be done in remembrance of Christ 1Cor 11:24b
- 3).This cup is the new testament or covenant in the blood of Jesus Christ.(not in the blood of goats or calves Heb 9:12).We have to drink it often, and in remembrance of Him 1Cor 11:25. The old sacrifices brought sins continually to remembrance, (Heb 10:1,3) But the Lord's Supper brings to remembrance Christ and His sacrifice once for all for the full and final remission of sins.
- 4).This cup or the new covenant or testament in the blood of Jesus is the parchment-deed, as it were, on which His new covenant, or last will is written and sealed, making over to us all blessings here and hereafter.
- 5).The Holy Communion should be separated from Common meals. 1Cor 11:34
