Theme:QUALITIES OF FRUITFUL GROWTH IN (THE KNOWLEDGE OF) OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST (VI)
__________________________________________
Topic:
GODLINESS
TEXT:
1 TIM 4:8, 2 PET 1:6, 1 TIM 6:6
Memory Verse:
"These are the qualities you need, and if you have them in abundance, they will make you active and effective in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But if you do not have them, you are so short sighted that you cannot see and have forgotten that you have been purified from your past sins. 2Pet 1:8-9 TEV"
INTRODUCTION:
Godliness could be defined as the practical manifestation of the whole Christian attributes, character and conduct determined by the principle of love or fear of God in the heart. It involves knowledge of God¡¯s will and conformity to it as well as affection, dependence, submission, gratitude and obedience to God.
Study:
- 1. Explain what you understand by the statement in 1Timothy 4:8? ¡°For bodily exercise profited little; but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come¡± (KJV)
- 2. Comment on Titus 2:11-12 ¡° For the grace of God that bringing salvation hath appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present world¡±.
- 3. Comment on 2Timthy 3:5 ¡°Having a form of godliness, but denying the power there of, from such turn away. (KJV)
- 4. From Ps 4:3 & 32:6 mention the benefits of living a godly life.
- 5. Discuss 1Timothy 6:6 ¡°But godliness with contentment is great gain¡±.
CONCLUSION:
To live a godly life is to live a life that proceeds from God, and pleases Him. It is to conform to His will and assimilate to His character. Godliness is the summing up of genuine Christianity. You either have it or a ¡°form of it¡± which is dead and denies the power of true godliness 2Tim 3:5.
May the Lord help us to be his obedient
children in Jesus name. Amen?
