THE ULTIMATE DECISION
"The ultimate decision is that highest and most important
decision we make that leads to the will of God, his purpose
and eternal plan for our lives."
nd I have given you a land for which ye did not labour, and cities which ye built not, and you dwell in them; of the vineyards and olive yards which you planted not do you eat. Now therefore fear the Lord, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve you the Lord. And if it seems evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom you will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. Joshua 24:13-15.
A decision is a choice or judgment one makes about a particular course of action. God has a beautiful plan for your life and future but that plan can only be achieved through your personal decision. He said in the book of Jeremiah 29:1, I know the plans I have for you the plan of good and not of evil, to give you (a hope and a future) an expected end.
So you see, he has an expected end for you, but it is your choice
that will determine whether you will get to that end or not. In order words
your decision determines your destination.
God created man a free moral agent, having the power to choose right or
wrong but that does not mean that God has right as well as wrong
plans for man. The bible declares in 2 Peter; 3.9 that it is not
the will of God that "any?should perish, but that all should
come to repentance. It is God's desire that men would choose to
come to repentance than choose to perish in their sins. People
perish because they choose or decide to perish, that is why the
word of God says "my people are destroyed (perish) for lack of knowledge
Hosea 4:6. If they choose the path of knowledge it will lead them to salvation
but if they choose the path of ignorance it will lead them to destruction.
Again he says "where there is no vision the people perish" Prov.29:18a
(KJV). A vision is a wise understanding about the future. Where people
choose not to be mindful of their future out come, where they decide not
to be fore sighted, there they have decided to perish.
The ultimate decision therefore is that highest and most important
decision we make that leads to the will of God, his purpose and eternal
plan for our lives. The word of God (the bible) is the mirror that reflects
the true image of God's will, purpose and eternal plan for our lives.
It is given to man so that the will of God will be done on earth
(in your life) as it is done in heaven.
Someone said that BIBLE simply means Basic Instructions Before
Leaving the Earth. In other words, when we get to heaven, we will have
no need of this "God breathed?but physically written and voluminous book
called the bible, translated in different versions and languages just to
make it easy for us to understand what the will of God is, because we
will discover that the will of God is really done there as it is supposed
to be done on earth. Now that we are still in the earth, if we have to
follow and do the will of God for our lives, we have to first of all
have the knowledge of His will.
Knowing the will of God is the greatest knowledge, choosing the
will of God is the greatest choice, doing the will of God is the greatest
achievement.
The decision to do the will of God is the ultimate decision.
It is not always easy but it is always right. It was right when Jesus
Christ our Lord made the ultimate decision and chose the part of obedience
to the absolute will of God His father. He declared in the book of
John 4:34 "My meat is to do the will of (my father) He that sent me and
to finish His work.
At the garden of Gethsemane he made the ultimate
decision to subjugate His own will to the supreme will of His father.
He said "Nevertheless not my will but thine be done". Luke 22:42
Though it brought a moment of crisis and dilemma in His life, yet He
had to make that right decision and believed he had done so without minding
what people thought of His action.
A servant is not greater than his master. Sometimes we may be doing
the will of God yet going through unimaginable crisis; at such moments, we
have to encourage ourselves in the Lord believing we have made right
decisions not minding what people may think of us. The assurance is this,
if Jesus held on and was not disappointed, neither you nor I would be
disappointed if we faint not.
Moses made the ultimate decision when as a young boy in Egypt he refused
to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter; choosing rather to suffer
affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the pleasures of Sin for
a season esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures
of Egypt. For he has respect unto the recompense of reward.
Heb 11:24-26 (KJV)
Abel made the ultimate decision when he offered to God a more excellent
sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous,
God testifying of his gifts; and by it be being dead yet speaks. Heb11:4
Enoch made the ultimate decision when of all in his generation he decided
to please God that God decided and translated him without seeing death.
Heb11:5
Noah made the ultimate decision when being warned of God of things not
yet seen, moved with fear and prepared an ark to the saving of his family
by which he condemned the world and became an heir of righteousness which
is by faith.Heb11:7
Abraham made the ultimate decision when he was called to go out into a
place which he should receive for an inheritance later on, obeyed and went out
not knowing where he was going. Heb11:8
Apostle Paul made the ultimate decision when he said "for me to die is gain
and for me to live is Christ", Philipians1:21.
I have decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and Him
crucified, 1st Cor2:2.When he said “Who shall separate us from the Love of
God which is in Christ Jesus my Lord, shall tribulation, peril, sword,
nakedness...yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through him
who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life nor Angels
nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor
height nor dept, nor any other created thing shall be able to separate us
from the Love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:35-39
Joshua made that ultimate decision when he said "Choose you this day whom
you shall serve as for me and my house hold, we shall serve the Lord".
Joshua 24:13-15.
Elijah made that ultimate decision when be said "why are you halting
between two opinions, if the Lord be God follow Him but if he be Baal
then follow him...1King18:21
Time will fail me to talk about Joseph, Daniel, Mishak,
Shedrach and Abadnego, men who made ultimate decisions in their
lives and became heroes. You too can become God's own kind of a hero if
you will start making ultimate decisions from today.
You can start by deciding to receive Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ
into your life today and other ultimate decisions will follow.
Remain blessed as you do so in the name of JESUS Amen!
