PRAYING ALWAYS
TEXTS: Eph 6:18, Mtt7:7-8, 1Jn5:14-15, Lk18:1
Memory Verse:
Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints. Eph6:18"
INTRODUCTION:
Prayer is very important to a soldier who goes to the battle front. It is indispensable to the Christian soldier. Prayer crowns all lawful efforts with success, and gives a victory when nothing else would. No matter how complete the armour; no matter how skilled we may be in the science of war; no matter how courageous we may be, we may be certain that without prayer, we shall be defeated. God alone can give the victory; and so as Christian soldiers who are completely armed for the spiritual conflict, we must look unto God by prayer to be sure of victory and triumph.
What is prayer? Matt 7:7-8
- Prayer is asking and receiving. It is talking with God. It is making your requests known to God in faith.
Our Lord Jesus instructs the believer to ASK, SEEK, and KNOCK because these three words cover the whole spectrum of prayer.
- Prayer is asking and receiving. When you know the will of God concerning a need, whether it is material or spiritual, you can ask and receive. This is prayer according to the revealed will of God 1Jn5:14-15
- Prayer is seeking and finding, when you do not know the will of God regarding a need, whether it be material or spiritual then you are to seek His will in prayer concerning this need until you find it. This is prayer for knowledge of the un-revealed will of God in a specific need. Col3:1, Jer229:12-13
- Prayer is knocking and opening. When you know the will of God and yet you find a closed door, you are to knock and keep knocking until God opens the door. This is tenacious prayer-prayer for mountain moving faith. Knocking prayer perseveres until the impossible becomes the possible. This is miracle working prayer. Mtt17:14-21
- WHY MUST WE PRAY: Lk18:1,Mtt26:41, Ja4:2, Jn16:24, Ps34:6, Ja1:5, Jer33:3, Isam12:23, Rm10:13-14, 1Thes5:17
- We are to pray with all prayer and supplication.
With all kinds of prayer: prayer in the closet, the family, the social meeting, the church, prayer at the usual and unusual hours, when we are tempted and when we feel not like praying. We pray the prayer of supplication for ourselves and others. We pray the prayer of intercession for others. We are to pray in the spirit: that is by the aid of the Holy Spirit. Rm8:26
We are to watch unto our prayers 1Pet4:7, Mtt26:38, Mtt26:41
And supplication for all saints, for all Christian.
We should do this:
- Because they are our brethren¡ªthough they may have a different skin, language, or name.
- Because, like us, they have hearts prone to evil, and need, with us, the grace of God.
- Because nothing tends so much to make us love others, and to forget their faults, as to pray for them.
- Because the condition of the church is always such that it greatly needs the grace of God. Many Christians have backslidden; many are cold or lukewarm; many are in error; many are conformed to the world; and we should pray that they may become more holy, and may devote themselves more to God.
- Because each day many a Christian is subjected to some peculiar temptation or trial, and though he may be unknown to us, yet our prayers may benefit him.
- Because each day and each night many Christians die. We may reflect each night as we lie down to rest, that while we sleep some Christian are kept awake by the prospect of death, and are now passing through the dark valley; and each morning we may reflect that today some Christian will die, and we should remember them before God.
CONCLUSION:
Prayer is the master that unlocks the door of victory in every spiritual battle. Our Lord Jesus started His battles with prayer and ended them with prayer and He said that you and I should always pray with out giving up. Luke18:1.
May the Lord help us in the name of Jesus Amen!
