Theme: SWIMMING AGAINST THE TIDE OF CRISIS
__________________________________________
Topic:
BEING ZEALOUS FOR THE LORD
AIM:
TO MAXIMIZE THE BELIEVER'S SPIRITUAL EFFICIENCY
TEXTS: COR 15:58, Haggai 2:4, Isaiah 62:1, Nehemiah 4:21, Jeremiah 20:9
Memory Verse: "Not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit,
serving the Lord, rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing
steadfastly in prayers"
Romans 12: 11-12
INTRODUCTION:
A running automobile engine requires a constant supply of fuel. A lighting bulb requires a steady supply of electrical energy etc, in the same way a believer in Christ requires the mobilization or say fanning into flame of his spiritual gifts and talents, allowing them to continue burning and flowing through his veins daily to be able to put in his best for the Lord at all times, especially in the time of crisis. Proverbs 26:20a says; ¡°Where there is no wood, the fire goes out.¡±
Zealousness from the above scripture is the product of wood and fire. Both of them are inseparable. Wood (fuel) is the cause and fire is the effect. If you supply the wood, the Holy Spirit will supply the fire. If you are Zealous for the Lord, the evidence must be seen. ¡°Come and see my zeal for the Lord¡± 2kings 10:16
In what and when should we be zealous? Gal 4:18
When a believer is neither cold nor hot he is called a lukewarm Christian. He is good for nothing because there is no zeal in him. What are the consequences of living this way? Rev 3:15-16
In a time of crisis, we are to rise, build and defend; these require being zealous enough not only to complete the work but to put the enemies of progress to shame. Our zeal will definitely prove Sanballat and Tobias wrong. Nehemiah 4:24-23 (Read the whole chapter of Nehemiah chapter 4 at home).
A zealous Christian continues steadfastly in praying and occasional fasting until he receives answers from God Isaiah. 62:1, Dan10:12
Strength and comfort of God's promise propel a zealous Christian to diligent work. Haggai2:4
Comment on the statement the zeal of your house has eaten me up¡± Jn2:17
What should motivate zealousness in a Christian¡¯s life? 1cor15:58, like2:49

CONCLUSION:
Serving the Lord with zeal embraces diligence, fervent spirit, rejoicing in hope of eternal life, giving thanks to God in all circumstances, being patient in trials and persecutions, continuing steadfastly in prayers and living a life of holiness and dedication to God, and serving God consistently with your money, time, gifts, talents and abilities. Why not make it your way of Christian life today.
May God help us in Jesus name Amen!
